The Black River is associated with a catchment into which everything flows to the west of Parteen Weir at the south end of Lough Derg. It flows through Bridgetown, Co.Clare, eventually flowing into the Shannon at the Parteen weir.
We depend on both our local catchment and the greater Shannon catchment for the quality of our drinking water, and for our living, leisure, and sporting environment. Likewise, our partners in nature – animals, fish, birds, insects and plants – which play an important role in all our lives, depend on the quality of our local and more extensive catchments for their very existance.
This website has been created to teach people about the Black River catchment, its importance and the work that has been done to improve its ecology and how it will impact the ecosystem.
“ The well-being of its river is the measure of the health of a community…”
